Concept Builder: Ø Students will complete the Government Classification Picture Sort activity in which each student will randomly be given a picture sort card. All students must tape their card on their backs. They will then go around the room and try to match up/form a group with other students based on the card they have. To Formative Assessments The listed formative assessments will be used to monitor and guide instruction and to support students in writing the summative assessment response prompt. All print formative assessments can be adjusted or replaced using Apps such as Show Me, Popplet, Shadow Puppet, iMovie, Book Creator, etc. Government Picture Sort Response Sheet 4-4 United States Government make this activity more difficult, students can complete this task without talking. After students have formed their groups, they must then take their cards and place them in the center of their group and discuss what they all have in common. They will complete questions (1-2) on the Government Picture Sort response sheet. All groups will then report to the class as a whole group what the connection is among their cards. The teacher will then explain to students that this activity represents our government. In that there are different jobs/groups of people that come together to make sure our government stays working (levels of government, branches of government, etc.). Students will complete the remaining questions (3-5) on their student response sheet. Ø Introduce the key concept question.
