The following activities can support student understanding of important geographical, political, economic, and social concepts:
• Use a road map to highlight family trips and outings during the summer. • Read historical fiction. • Visit a new museum. • Interview a family member from a different generation. Discuss how our society and culture have changed over time. • Visit an elected official. • Read newspapers and news magazines. • With parent permission, use family pictures to construct a family history timeline. • Talk with parents and grandparents to create a family tree to learn about family heritage. • On a world map, locate places that are in the news, where sports teams are from, or where family members live. • When riding in the car identify the businesses you pass as ones that produce goods and ones that produce services. • Compare two newspaper accounts of the same story. • Graph prices in the store and research why process have gone up or down. • Write and send a letter to the editor in response to a newspaper article. |
